Health insurance coverage gives Americans and their health providers protection against the financial risk associated with the costs of health care and can help improve well-being.  Today, however, many Americans do not have health insurance coverage for a year or more and even more experience gaps in their coverage at some point during a single year. Uninsured and inconsistently insured people are less likely to receive needed medical care. This dashboard tracks the level, source, and continuity of health insurance coverage and of the financial protection provided by that coverage. The national summary data for the measures that comprise this dashboard are presented below.
