Inclusion Criteria: A case is a current resident of the Active Bacteria Core surveillance (ABCs) MRSA catchment area during the calendar years of 2005 though 2009, and who had a positive invasive culture reported to the Emerging Infections Program (EIP)/ABCs site. Healthcare-associated MRSA is defined as a patient who had any one or any combination of the following: an invasive MRSA culture collected 3 or more calendar days after the date of hospital admission, a hospitalization, surgery, dialysis treatment, or was a resident of a long-term care facility in the previous year before the date of initial culture, or the presence of a central vascular catheter around the time of hospital admission or initial culture.
Exclusion Criteria: A case that is not a current resident of the ABCs MRSA catchment area during the calendar year of 2005 through 2009, and who had a positive invasive MRSA culture. A patient who did not have any of the risk factors mentioned above.
This measure is calculated by the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, National Centers for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, CDC from the Active Bacterial Core/Emerging Infections Program.
