Total Annual Mean Health Care Expenses per Person who had at least One Health Event for the Following Conditions: Back Problem, Normal Birth, Heart Disease
Mean of total annual health care expenditures for person who experienced a hospital inpatient or outpatient event, office-visit, emergency room visit, home health visit or received a prescription related to the specified conditions. Estimates may be interpreted as annual mean expenditures for persons with the specified conditions rather than expenditures for the given condition.
Inclusion Criteria: This measure includes people hospitalized in the civilian non-institutional population who reported the specified condition (Back pain; Pneumonia; Normal birth; and Heart condition). Persons were identified using clinical classification codes.
Exclusion Criteria: Excluded from this measure are people in the military and the institutional population. Also excluded are people who did not report the conditions of interest.
Missing data years: Because of sample size limitations, data are not available for all age groups across all conditions for all years.
This measure is calculated by AHRQ from the MEPS.
